BED BUG EXTERMINATION
It can happen to anyone, they have nothing to do with cleanliness. These pests are amazing hitchhikers and can hide just about anywhere. They can be picked up in hotels, motels, public transportation systems, airports, movie theaters, furniture, etc… Unfortunately, bed bugs are not easy to find. They can hide in the smallest of spots. We have found bed bugs living in objects like television sets, inside switch plates, in wall voids and otherwise inaccessible places.
Don’t Panic… They are not known as vectors of disease. We know they are creepy and you just want them gone!!! Just call us or email us and we’ll jump on it right away but there are some things that need to be done 1st.
If you suspect you may have bed bugs, the first step is a proper I.D. A live sample is always best, but you can also check for blood spots on the mattress/sheets, fecal spots and cast skins. Clear tape is a great tool to nab one of these guys. Take a picture with your smartphone. Search all seams on mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture as well as the joints of bed frames and other furniture. Check out any known cracks and crevices in the room, including the floors. Inspect the portion of walls behind picture frames, headboards, and furniture. Any insect (or fragment of insects) you come across is a suspect, so put them in an air tight container, like a Ziploc bag. Try to make things easy for us by not destroying the sample (we understand the temptation). Proper ID of a bed bug is vital to the success of eradication. Having bite marks in and of itself is not cause for treatment.
The worst possible scenario is paying and preparing for a bed bug treatment when bed bugs were not the problem. We have run into numerous accounts where homeowners have mistaken bat bugs for bed bugs. While similar in appearance, each species requires a different treatment approach. Bat bugs prefer to feed on bats, so they are mainly brought into attics. When the preferred host leaves (migrates south or are removed), the bat bugs begin to look for a new host (hello beautiful). Other insects that are commonly mistaken for bed bugs are carpet beetles, bird mites, and fleas. Premier Pest Control has been called in many times to solve “severe bug problems” after frustrated homeowners have spent 100’s of dollars with other companies only to find out that the wrong pest was being treated.
We pride ourselves on doing the right thing…
To make the identification quick and easy, we have 8 highly trained professionals ready to come out to properly identify and a certified entomologist on staff. We have numerous monitoring and ID tools available. These inspections are performed by licensed pest professionals that actually perform treatments on a daily basis. They are NOT commissioned salespeople. We have literally saved homeowners $1,000’s of dollars by providing pest ID inspections. If no treatment is recommended, then that’s exactly what we’ll do.
If we cannot determine if there are bed bugs present and you are still concerned then we recommend you contact an independent bed-bug sniffing dog. We recommend you use a dog not affiliated with a pest control company for an honest answer. We have had good reviews about New England Canine Detectives, but the choise is completely yours.
